We are proud to announce that our VLDB 2023 publication about DBSP, has been selected for 2024 ACM SIGMOD Research Highlights. This is a very prestigious annual award that recognizes important work in the field of databases.

For this occasion we have rewritten the paper into a shorter version, and changed the title: DBSP: Incremental Computation on Streams and Its Applications to Databases.

We have tried to avoid the mathematical formulas, in an attempt to make the paper accessible to a broader audience. We also have tried to emphasize that the DBSP model of computation may have broader uses beyond database systems. We are very grateful to Dan Olteanu, a professor at the University of Zurich, who has written a technical perspective about our paper.

We are truly honored by this award! Our aim is to live up to the expectations of the award (described below), by proving that this technology will be an important component for solving many practical problems.

What is SIGMOD Research Highlights?

The following quotes are obtained from the ACM SIGMOD website:

SIGMOD Research Highlights are to showcase a set of research projects that exemplify core database research. In particular, these projects address an important problem, represent a definitive milestone in solving the problem, and have the potential of significant impact. SIGMOD Research Highlights also aim to make the selected works widely known in the database community, to our industry partners, and to the broader ACM community.

The award is given by ACM SIGMOD:

ACM SIGMOD is the ACM Special Interest Group on Management of Data. It is concerned with the principles, techniques and applications of database management systems and data management technology. Our members include software developers, academic and industrial researchers, practitioners, users, and students. SIGMOD sponsors the annual SIGMOD/PODS conference, one of the most important and selective in the field.
